RAKU FIRING
with Richard Ballantyne
Sat 15th and/or
Experience the amazing fast and magical Japanese firing technique for the
weekend or even just one day. This is a pyromaniacs
delight with plenty of smoke and fire!
Bisque fired pots and sculpture are glazed,
fired to 1000 degrees and then plunged straight from the kiln into combustible
materials. They are then cooled, cleaned and in your hands within 2 hours!
Participants should bring with them small pots or sculptures which have been
bisque fired already to 1000 degrees C. These should preferably be made of an open grogged clay that can
withstand thermal shock.
Richard is now a full time potter and his work can be seen on his website www.richardballantyne.co.uk
The cost of the weekend is £75 for the two days and
£40 for only one.
