Movement, Music & the Model (Creative Life Drawing) with Bella Franks

Movement, Music & the Model (Creative Life Drawing) with Bella Franks

Brighton and London-based figurative artist & yoga teacher Bella Franks is all about ‘the art of the body’ – using the mind & body connection to fully appreciate the human form through creativity.

She runs unique life drawing events every week including at Soho Farmhouse, Peligoni Club House, Facebook and Proper Corn HQ’s and now she is coming to teach an at the Phoenix!

Over this two day course, each morning will begin with a yoga class (9.30-10.30am) before you start the fun process of making art. The yoga class is optional, but Bella encourages students to join in – it is open to all levels & will be a gentle class aimed at stretching the body in preparation for creativity to flow throughout the weekend.

Bella has been drawing the human form for over 16 years and tutors the practise as well as being a life model herself. This invaluable experience from both sides of the canvas has made her well equipped to help others explore the practise. The course will cover practical tools to help you with proportions, mark making & tone, as well as giving the freedom to explore your own freedom of expression & style. There will be the chance to incorporate print-making & collage in your work.

Bella works with live musicians to inspire her work and will be giving students a taste of this – her course will be accompanied by live music. The interplay between music, movement and the life model is unique & inspiring and Bella hopes this extra level of creative expression will help you explore a new openness in your own work.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Bella Franks

Artist Bella lives a crazyily vibrant and enlightened existance. For the past 16 years she has been running pop-up life drawing classes around London and indeed the world – from pop up life drawing parties in your lounge to private events at the likes of Soho Farmhouse, Peligoni Club House, Facebook and Proper Corn HQ’s – there really never is a dull moment in her diary!
Her classes are fun, relaxed and open to all drawing abilities. Bella introduces the traditonal practise of learning to draw from a nude figure, while offering tips throughout the session to those who require a little extra help. Her sessions often see live music being thrown into the mix too!

At the end of the course we are confident that you will come away with two pieces that you can be happy with and have a great sense of pride & achievement.  Who knows, discovering ceramics may change the course of your life – it certainly has mine!

James Ort – Course Tutor

Bella gets wonderful feedback from the people who attend her courses.  Here are just a couple of testimonials:

I had the pleasure of being taught by Stephen and instantly thought that I need to get him to the Phoenix Studio! He was attentive, inspiring and very approachable. We have are well known for our sculpture courses here but what Stephen teaches brings a whole new dimension to 3D art! I can’t wait for the course – one space has my name on it!

James Ort

I really enjoyed meeting you Stephen and thought the workshop great fun, instructive and well prepared

not least due to the remarkable amount of wonderfully kitsch bits and bobs you brought! Many of which I seem
to have incorporated in my effort.

Stephen Savage

It taught me the importance of play – even as an adult!
