Rosalind Wates is an experienced mosaicist, known for her public art projects up and down the UK. Brought up in the English Lake District, she attended Bedales School in Hampshire and went on to study Decorative Arts in London.
She works in a variety of styles, using glass, ceramic, marble, slate, gold and natural stone. Her clients have ranged from film stars and billionaires to public bodies and local communities, starting in her mid-twenties when she received her first mosaic commission: a jacuzzi for Michael Caine. This led on to a career in mosaics, working mainly to commission. Her career has taken her all over the UK – in particular the Outer Hebrides – and abroad.
Although versed in traditional mosaic techniques, she likes to explore the creative possibilities of the medium in her new work. Rosalind also teaches and has carried out TV and radio work. Her book, The Mosaic Decorator’s Sourcebook, has been translated into several languages and is sold worldwide. Her website address is: www.rosalindwates.co.uk
