PRIVATE WEEKEND OR DAY BOOKINGS
(See courses marked with asterisk*)

I have recently held several private weekends and also special one off days for groups of friends and groups such as the Henley Arts and Crafts Guild. These have proved to be very successful. If you are interested please enquire about suitable dates

_____________________________________________________________ RAKU FIRING DAYS (One day course)*
with Eddie Kent
14th August 2010
(with a possible second date on the 15th if demand is high)
10.00 -16.00

Come and take part in a smoulderingly fun day of Raku Firng!

Eddie Kent invites you to explore this unique and exciting way of glazing.

Using an outdoor kiln, pre-biscuit fired ceramics are glazed and then placed into the kiln which is fired up quickly to approx 900degrees C. This causes the glaze to vitrify. In this traditional Japanese firing process, the fired Raku piece is removed from the hot kiln (when it is red/white hot) and put directly into sawdust or allowed to cool in the open air. It is then plunged into cold water which encourages fine cracks to form in the glazed surface. By controlling the amount of air that interacts with the glaze, you can create a unique and striking finish.

Costs - £50 per day (includes glazes, firing and tuition)

*Participants can either purchase pieces to fire on the day (at minimal cost) or bring their own pieces to glaze.
